From the time that I was a child, I knew that I always wanted to serve this great nation. I knew that I wanted to give back to this great country. My motivation was simply put, patriotism and a desire to serve. This desire led me to join the U.S. Army, not on any random day, but on my 18th birthday. Yes, I swore to protect and defend the constitution of the United States of America against all enemies both foreign and domestic, on my 18th birthday; I did not have a big party or go out with my friends. I commit myself to a life of service.
I had, and still have, a deep love for the country, and was willing to sacrifice everything for it should I have needed to.
In 2009, I was deployed to Afghanistan, along the Pakistan border in Kunar province. This is where I cut my teeth in war, one of the most kinetic areas in the entire theater of operations at the time. I returned home in 2010, and I would return to the same area again in 2012.
During both of my deployments, I was in direct combat regularly, and I was injured, which led to my medical retirement in 2015 after serving this country for 9 years.
Although my time in the military came to a close, my commitment to service was never retired. I enrolled in school and found my calling serving others through the profession of nursing. I love being a nurse. Every day I have the opportunity to make someone else's day or life better, and in turn my day and life are usually better for it.
Over the course of the last 5 years, I've been exposed to a diverse population of Coloradans, and many are hurting. The policies of the current Federal Administration are divisive, kill morale, and are a direct threat to our liberties as Americans. "Making America Great Again" is actually taking us back in time, and threatens to overturn the great strides made in the civil rights movement, human rights, health care, and even science.
In November of 2019, I became a dad. My daughter was born into a political climate that I cannot stand by and watch those who act in bad faith gain power. So, here I am, a nurse, a husband, a combat veteran, your democratic candidate for Colorado House of Representatives District 39, and a lifelong patriot.
